The reading is a live performance of one scene, done at every meeting.
One member is chosen each week to have a scene read; other participants volunteer to read the parts. That writer selects one scene and at least two days before the meeting, the writer distributes the script to the performers together with any necessary notes for context or character development and especially a description of the purpose of the scene within the story.
At the meeting, the dialog is performed aloud. Afterwards, there is a critical discussion of the scene, with each person who read a part giving special attention to evaluating his own lines. There is only one reading per meeting.
Before the meeting adjourns, a new writer is selected for the next meeting's reading.
